A Scent of Summer: exhibition of contemporary Bulgarian artists | ||
The Phoenix Gallery in Sofia has selected a mosaic of works by contemporary Bulgarian artists on the eve of summer. Twenty renowned artists from different generations have joined the exhibition entitled A Scent of Summer. An explosion of colors, shades and shapes from various genres, styles and techniques of fine art is on until 29 June. It blends a sunny mood consistent with the season with intellectual depth and beauty of messages. Phoenix Gallery owner Mariella Tabakova says more. “This exhibition is very interesting and very rich. We have entitled it A Scent of Summer, because the summer is a season full of emotion, passion, sun and colors. And precisely this we have tried to convey through the works mounted at the gallery. The main principle for inviting featured artists is that they are all very talented and already famous. At the same time however, they are very different from one another by style of painting and means of expression. The display presents paintings, watercolors and sculptures. And it conveys the spirit of the season when people mostly think of the sea and the sun. So we have accentuated the marine theme. There is also a lot of light streaming from the canvases and sculpture. It is difficult to single out few names of artists but still I should like to mention Branimir Tsakov, Plamen Vultchev, Ivan Kanev and Rositsa Dantcheva." Among artists with works on display at the exhibition A Scent of Summer is famous Bulgarian sculptress Rositsa Dantcheva, a master of portraits and sophisticated shapes. She is presented with a nude torso and with a mask. “It is so nice to join such a warm exhibition”, the artist says. “And all this happens in a gallery that appreciates high achievements in various genres of art. I have joined in with three sculptures in a definitely classical style. This is often assumed as something conservative. In fact, most artists in the exhibition are classics. However they also break the classical approach through their personal view. One of my works is Mask. The human face has been a subject of art since ancient times and still is. Above all, however, it is the quintessence of beauty and philosophical meaning without involving a plot. A nicely created mask is an even more concise shape than a full portrait. At the subconscious level it promotes wide-ranging thoughts and is also the source of aesthetic pleasure that I hope I have achieved.” http://bnr.bg |
