Bulgaria has reduced its CO2 emissions
Wednesday, May 08, 2019
In 2018 Bulgaria reduced the CO2 emissions from fossil fuels, whereas the EU reduced these emissions with 2.5% on average. Bulgaria places second after Portugal which managed to reduce its CO2 emissions with 9% last year. Bulgaria’s share in the total CO2 pollution in the EU is 1.3%. Biggest increase of CO2 emissions was registered in Latvia-8%. Eurostat specifies that the indicators depend on whether a given country imports or exports energy sources. If a country imports coal, pollution from coal burning is calculated in its data, but when a given country imports electricity, the pollution is at the expense of the country where this electricity was produced. Bulgaria is among the gross exporters of electricity in the EU.
