Storage in a small hall: 7 main rules | ||
A small hall and, as a consequence, a mess because of unreasoned storage systems is a headache for many owners of small apartments and studios. We have collected 7 general rules that can help you easily solve this problem. 1. Find a place for little items Get a place for all the little things that you used to leave right at the entrance: keys, gloves, bills and letters. It is better be a chest of drawers or even a hanging shelf on which all the items may be put. But if the size of the hall does not allow putting new furniture, pick up at least a hook for the keys. 2. Store the shoes densely There is nothing worse in a small hall than shoes, placed on the floor. In cold season all the dirt from shoes finds itself in a room very quickly. If you do not need a mess, consider a compact storage for shoes. This can be a drawer in an armoire or even special hangers for boots. 3. Determine the place for each thing If there is a closet at the entrance, try to clearly determine the purpose of each thing. Seasonal items can be removed higher to find a place for them in other rooms, whereas warm accessories and shoe care means may be positioned at eye level. 4. Place an open hanger Hangers-hooks or open closets are more compact and, most importantly, will save the family budget as compared with the purchase of a closet. However, they are relevant only in those apartments, where there is a place to hide non-seasonal clothing. 5. … or wardrobe A wardrobe is much more capacious than an open hanger, but it is worth remembering its optimum size -too bulky design will enclose half of the hall. If the cupboard has a depth of 45 centimeters, it will be quite enough to put outerwear on front hangers. 6. Do not forget the corners If the hallway is very small the best way to build a storage system is to buy a corner cupboard. Its design often includes a small banquette, so that you will feel comfortable to put on shoes. 7. Use the door and other surfaces In the struggle for free square meters all means are possible, in particular, the surface of the door, the upper shelves and mezzanine. On a wooden door place a hook for outerwear, bags and scarves, and on the mezzanine hide the bulk clothes you do not wear every day. betterimprovement.com |
