Bulgaria to woo tourists with cultural attractions | ||

Cabinet adopted the Strategic plan to develop cultural tourism, establishing it as a priority in the sector, stated deputy minister of tourism Ivo Marinov. Bulgaria collaborated with Italy on the project. The mutual work continued 3 years. Deputy minister of culture Todor Chobanov reported that the 3-volume text of the Plan is in the public domain. The text catalogs cultural attractions and includes over 300 archaeological sites. Chobanov clarified that it could be revised further. 80% of the sites are part of Bulgaria’s national cultural heritage. They are divided in 13 regions: 1. Great Sofia, viewing Sofia as both the administrative and cultural capital of Bulgaria; 2. The Valley of Kings; 3. The City of Revival, presenting cultural heritage connected to our national identity; 4. The Danube Coast, including Pleven and Rousse towns; 5. The Stone Heart, a destination mainly for Bulgarians including Stara Zagora and Sliven; 6. The Ancient Capitals, including the Madara Horseman; 7. Po region on the Black Sea coast 8. Strandja Mountain, an example of both natural and cultural heritage; 9. The Sword and Cross, inc. Perperikon ancient city. This region has potential to become a key international destination; 10. Plovdiv and the Roman empire; 11. The Gate of the Rhodopi Mountains; 12. The Great Massifs – Rila and Pirin mountains; 13. The Petrified Forest. |
