Nearly 500,000 tourists visited museum sites in Bulgaria’s Veliko Tarnovo in 2015 | ||

Some 44,087 tourists visited the museum sites in the Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo in 2015. This is seen in the statistical report of the Regional Museum of History-Veliko Tarnovo. Some 293,430 of the tourists were Bulgarians, while 150,657 – foreigners. The interest in the cultural-historical heritage of the town continues growing and last year there was a 4% increase of the foreign visitors compared with 2014. An interesting fact is that big part of the tourists is comprised of young people – 9,060 schoolchildren and 22,269 university students. Speaking of the foreign tourists, those form the USA were most numerous – 28,222, followed by those from Romania – 23,303, Russia and France. There is also 10-15% increase of the tourists from Spain, the UK, Japan, Australia and Asia. By tradition, Tsarevets medieval stronghold enjoys the highest interest and it is the most visited site in Veliko Tarnovo. It was examined by 268,480 tourists, 17,648 of whom were children, 55,072 – schoolchildren, 83,717 – university students, and 74,733 – foreign tourists. The biggest number of tourists at Tsarevets was reported in August – 41,554. Some 39,530 tourists examined the Multimedia Visitor’s Centre Tsarevgrad Tarnov, while more than 32,000 – the medieval museum-churches in the Asenovo quarter. Meanwhile, some 774 tourists visited Bulgaria’s Tsarevets medieval stronghold in the Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo on the very first day of the year – January 1, 2016. The first visitor for 2016 was a 79-year-old woman named Stefka Damyanova from the town of Stara Zagora. The first visitor was solemnly welcomed at 12 p.m. by Director of the Regional Museum of History – Veliko Tarnovo, Ivan Tsarov, with presents and champagne. “You are the first tourist registered to visit a museum site in Bulgaria in 2016. I wish you long life, many emotional moments and many trips,” Mr Tsarov remarked. In four hours on January 1 Tsarevets was examined by other 640 tourists from Bulgaria and 133 foreign tourists. The Tsarevets architectural-museum reserve is the most visited tourist site in Bulgaria and the only museum opened 365 days a year. |
